Colored Pencil Portraits by S. Belle-Isle 

The quickest and easiest way to send us reference photos is with a digital camera. You can quickly photograph your subject and e-mail the photos to us for approval. Please see our photo suggestions for help creating your own photograph for pencil portraits.

100 speed film and an inexpensive camera with a zoom lens is also a great way to create artwork reference for colored pencil portraits such as the one used for the drawing above. These cute girls sat on a blanket outside in the shade and several photographs were taken. The pose chosen resulted in this colored pencil portrait called "Sisterly Love.

If you don't have a photo that can be used for a stunning portrait, it's quite easy to take the photograph yourself.  Don't be afraid to zoom in for a close up shot and be creative with your posing.  Stunning colored pencil portraits   start with a wonderful photo.

If you have more than one subject, try to get them posed with faces very close together and relaxed. Photograph around noon in the shade to avoid squinted eyes, and if you are using 35mm film, shoot a whole roll varying the poses for lots of great choices.  Send us 3 or 4 of your favorite poses.  Have fun !!
