S. Belle-Isle has been teaching portraiture for 17 years, and has taught over 500 people techniques to successfully draw portraits from photographs in both ongoing classes and drawing workshops.

The pencil portrait drawing at left was completed by one of my students who has been in my art class at a local senior center for about 3 years. She has created a number of wonderful art pieces and never ceases to amaze me with her accomplishments. She had never drawn anything before the class.

I employ the grid method for portraiture & have taught hundreds of people to draw faces. Most achieved a stunning likeness the first time. After teaching for 17 years I have tried and tested methods to bring someone along quickly.

Some pencil drawing techniques that I teach are burnishing, impressed line, borrowing, blending, color lifting, creative erasing, etc.
